Jonathan Vogel, a prisoner serving a sentence for murder during a robbery, was recently arrested in the province of San Luis after being caught with drugs during a temporary leave. Vogel was sentenced in January 2002 to life imprisonment in July of the following year for aggravated robbery and homicide in real competition. Despite his conviction, he was granted semi-freedom benefits with work leaves from Monday to Friday.
The incident that triggered his arrest occurred when Vogel, 42 years old, along with another individual aged 45, were detained near the San Luis Terminal. Both were transporting marijuana and cocaine in separate vehicles. This event led to five subsequent raids where drugs valued at over $10 million were seized. Vogel already had a history of violating Law No. 23.737 on Narcotics.
The most notable event for which Vogel was convicted dates back to December 31, 2001, when he participated in an armed robbery in a store that resulted in the death of a senior commissioner. Despite the circumstances of his conviction, he was allowed temporary leave for employment. In this specific case, he was arrested for drug possession during a 36-hour leave 'on his word of honor.' Commissioner Sosa, a resident of the area where the arrest took place, attempted to intervene to stop the illicit act.
